Ingredients
  • To make Nasi Goreng, you will need the following ingredients:
  • 3 cups of cooked rice (preferably day-old rice)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 200 grams of chicken, shrimp, or your preferred protein (diced)
  • 1 cup of mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn, etc.)
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon shrimp paste (terasi)
  • 1 teaspoon chili paste or sambal oelek (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: fried shallots, cucumber slices, tomato slices, lime wedges, and chopped scallions.
Instructions
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté until fragrant and golden brown.
  2. Push the garlic and onion mixture to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs onto the other side. Allow the eggs to cook for a few seconds, then scramble them using a spatula.
  3. Add the diced chicken, shrimp, or preferred protein to the pan. Stir-fry until cooked through and lightly browned.
  4. Toss in the mixed vegetables and cook for a few minutes until they are slightly tender.
  5. Add the cooked rice to the pan, breaking up any clumps with a spatula. Mix the rice thoroughly with the other ingredients.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, shrimp paste, and chili paste. Pour this mixture over the rice, ensuring it is evenly distributed. Stir-fry for a few more minutes until the rice is well coated with the sauce and heated through.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning and chili paste according to your preference for spiciness.
  8. Once the Nasi Goreng is thoroughly heated, remove it from the heat and serve it hot.
